The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday, May 28, has officially classified burnout as a medically diagnosable 'syndrome'.  This is included in WHO's diagnostic manual, International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) lists.

Listed below are the possible signs of burnout:
  • Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion.
  • Increased mental distance from one's job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job.
  • Reduced professional efficacy.
The organisation defined burnout as a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.
