Twitter “on a stronger path to grow” layoffs 336 Employees

Twitter has announced on Tuesday that it would be laying off more than 300 employees, reducing about 8 percent of its global work force, to streamline and refocus as it the social media company.

The cuts was one of the first major moves by Jack Dorsey since he was named permanent chief executive slight more than a week.  It underscore the micro-blogging site’s difficulties in growing, particularly when compared to other social media giants such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Snapchat that are rapidly hiring and expanding their headquarters. Some analysts are wondering whether Twitter, which is rolling back its office expansion in San Francisco, can catch up.

“We are moving forward with a restructuring of our work force so we can put our company on a stronger path to grow,” Mr. Dorsey, one of the founders of Twitter, wrote in an email to employees. “We feel strongly that engineering will move much faster with a smaller and nimbler team, while remaining the biggest percentage of our work force. And the rest of the organization will be streamlined in parallel.”

“Product and Engineering are going to make the most significant structural changes to reflect our plan ahead. We feel strongly that Engineering will move much faster with a smaller and nimbler team, while remaining the biggest percentage of our workforce. And the rest of the organization will be streamlined in parallel,” Dorsey said in the email.
